During December, NTE welcomed the visit of Andre Kuipers, ESA Flight Engineer, and James Reilly, NASA mission specialist, in the context of the MARES Critical Design Review closure.
Kuipers was assigned for a Soyuz flight to the International Space Station (ISS)in 2002, and Reilly flew on STS-89 in 1998 and STS-104 in 2001, having performed 3 spacewalks. |

The Muscular Atrophy Research and Exercise System (MARES) is developed by a consortia led by NTE as a strength measurement device for physiological research under microgravity conditions onboard the International Space Station (ISS).
The participation of crew members ('astronauts') along the MARES development is required to guarantee that the instrument is designed in accordance to the microgravity conditions under which it will be operated.
Human and ergonomic factors, comfort issues and operational aspects are assessed and ultimately approved by crew members. |
