Manned spacecraft missions face a big challenge in terms of sustaining humans in hostile and isolated environments.

Keeping crew members in good physiological and psychological conditions is key to assure their operational readiness and to minimize negative effects on their overall health condition along the complete mission timeframe.

This need will become even more critical if one considers future manned exploration missions to the Moon and / or Mars.

Over the years NTE-SENER has accumulated substantial experience in this area.

In particular, we have been involved in technological development and flight programs in fields such as Crew Health Monitoring and Maintenance and Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS).

More specifically, we have been involved in a number of activities in the field of Closed Ecological Life Support Systems (CELSS), an area where biology, chemistry and agro-food technology meet traditional engineering with the ambitious goal to develop self-sufficient habitats sustaining human life in harsh environments.
